What is a drilling bit?

A drill bit is a rotary tool with cutting ability, usually made of carbon steel SK or high-speed steel SKH2, SKH3, etc., milled or rolled, quenched and heat-treated, and used for drilling process of metal or other materials. It has a wide range of applications and can be used in drilling machines, lathes, milling machines, flashlight drills and other tool machines.

Classification characteristics of drilling bits

Drilling operation is essentially a cutting process, and the prerequisite that needs to be met to complete the cutting process is that the hardness of the tool material must be higher than the hardness of the material being processed. Drill bits are relatively common in our daily life. What are the types of drilling bits?

A. Classification according to structure

(1) Integral drill: The top, body and shank are made of the same material.

(2) End-welded drill bit: the top part of the drill is welded by carbide.

B. Classification according to drill peg

(1)Straight shank drill: the diameter of drill bit is below ψ13.0mm, all use straight shank.

(2) Tapered shank drill: the shank of the drill is tapered, and the taper of the drill is generally adopted as Morse taper.

C. Classification according to usage

(1) Center drill bit.

Generally used for drilling before hitting the center point, the front taper has 60°, 75°, 90°, etc. In order to use the tailstock support during the lathe operation, the 60° center drill should be used to match the 60° top center of the lathe tailstock.

(2) Twist drill bit.

The most widely used drill bit for industrial manufacturing, we generally use twist drill bits.

(3)Super hard drill bit.

The front end of the drill body or all of it is made of super carbide tool material and is used in the drilling process of processed materials.

(4) Oil hole drill bit.

The drill body has two small holes through which the cutting agent reaches the cutting edge part to take away the heat and chips, using this drill generally the workpiece rotates while the drill bit is stationary.

(5) Deep hole drill bit.

It was first used for the drilling of gun barrel and stone bag pipe, also known as gun barrel drill bit. Deep hole drill bit is always groove type, in a round tube to remove a quarter of the strong part to produce edge chip.

(6) Drill reamer.

(7) Tapered drill bit.

When processing the mold inlet, tapered drill bits can be used.

(8) Cylindrical hole drill bit.

We call them countersink cutters, and the front end of such drills has a smaller diameter part called a dado bar.

(9) Conical hole bits.

For drilling tapered holes, the front end angle is 90 °, 60 ° and other kinds, we use the chamfering tool is a kind of tapered hole drill.

(10) Triangular drill bit.

A kind of drill bit used in electric drills, the shank of which is made of triangular face, so that the chuck can really fix the drill bit.
